Update and pictures!!
What a crazy couple of days....
Saturday started early (8:30 am) with coffee, donuts and pilot registration. Weather was clear, sunny with a north northeast wind at about 10 m/hr. Good day for meeting old friends, making new friends and lots of flying.
Participants came from as far away as Sioux City IA, Rushmore MN, and Aberdeen SD. We had flyers from Marshal MN, Sioux Falls SD, Beresford SD, Watertown SD, and all points in between. We were sad that some of our old friends were not able to make it, maybe next time.
Our chef Greg did an excellent job as usual with hamburgers and all the fixings for lunch and pork loin for dinner. (yum yum) Everyone congratulated Greg for a job well done (most of our guests, including yours truly went back for seconds)
We had 18 registered pilots with lots of airplanes, from J3 cubs to the vulnerable Super Stearman, to the Extras, and Yaks a beautiful Eurocoupe, to a couple of JU87 Stukas with their sirens going, and a big and beautiful L5, a nice GB and a couple of Sig Rascals, just to mention a few. One of our friends had a video camera on one of the planes, and a few of us got to watch live video of his flights, what a treat.
Our friends from Watertown brought down their winch so we set up a second flight line for them. The glass ships were up at no time finding thermals, showing the rest of us how it is really done. We logged some real long flights. Way to go silent flyers. Later in the day, we had a bunch of electrics and discus launched gliders, they had a blast.
Day one activities ended at about 9:00 PM, with a couple of our friends (with the campers) staying the night at the field.
Day two started windy, got windier and stayed windy. We had a few more of our friends joining us for Sunday but flying was rather limited. A couple of brave souls put airplanes together, one even tuned the engines of his P-38, but with 25 mile / hr winds we were grounded.
We said good bye to all of our friends, cleaned up and locked the gate at about 3:00 PM. Over all it was a very successful event. Lots of people, lots of flying and good times.
Here are a few pictures, snapped by our photographer, ZLK. (Thanks Zoe!)
Our Thanks to all our fellow pilots. We hope that you enjoyed yourselves!
We hope to see you again next year.
We would also like to thank our volunteers that made this event a great success.
Thanks for all the pictures ZLK
