Whether you're staying for a weekend . . . or a week-long vacation, you will enjoy Hole-in-the-Mountain park, located on the west edge of Lake Benton. And just what is "Hole-in-the-Mountain?" Our Native American predecessors named this opening in the Buffalo Ridge, an opening in the high hills through which all westward movement passed. The earliest documented pioneer trail through this pass was the Fort Ridgely and South Pass Road in the 1850's. Locally, the trail was known as the Nobles Trail through the Dutchmans Gap -- another name for Hole-in-the-Mountain. Hole-in-the-Mountain County Park
