To the Brookings Renegade Muzzleloaders Club
The Brookings Renegade Muzzleloaders was founded in 1980. The club is primarily interested in the Fur TradeEra before 1840. This was a time when the white man and the Native Americans got along well with trade, and ushered the Stone Age tribal people into the Iron Age. Beaver was the currency which the natives had & wanted to trade for manufactured goods. The bever pelts were used to make hats for the upperclass Europeans. The white traders brought items like knives, beads, blankets, cloth & guns to trade for the beaver pelts. Our club re-enacts this time period by dressing, camping, cooking, & trading. Our events are called "Rendezvous". The club also holds primitive home spun shooting matches, with traditional muzzleloading firelocks.
Our events are usually open to the public and more educational in nature than competitive. The Renagades are a "Mother Club" with members also promoting other re-enacting time periods & interests.
